Message from the President

Dear Members,

Another year has gone by and we are starting a new millennium. I hope that 2000 has been a good one for you and are looking forward to the adventures that 2001 will bring. We have a new meeting place: Alexander Hamilton High School in Elmsford, NY. There are directions and a map in this issue. We are very excited by this and hope that this place will be our permanent home. We are also trying to make Stitch-Ins available to all. We will be having Sunday afternoon stitch-ins at members’ homes and Tuesday/Thursday evening stitch-ins at the Greenburgh Library. In February, we are having a Stitch Studio where you can bring whatever you are having difficulties with and the members will help you out. It’s also time to clean out those closets, drawers, under the bed and wherever else we hide our stash. We are having a Stitcher’s Flea Market in February, too. This will be a small fundraiser for us. Details are inside this newsletter. We are starting a new project, Jane Zimmerman’s "Silk ‘n Shimmer" in March. Your children and friends’ children will be invited to join our group in April in "Bring your Children" day. Please fill out the coupon and let us know how many youngsters are coming so we can put together enough kits. We’ll be ending up in June with our annual meeting and luncheon.

Best wishes to all for a happy, healthy new year!

A Message from your Programs Person

Dear Fellow Members,

We are all very excited about having a new meeting place. I have made up posters and brochures and I will be hanging them in local train stations. I would appreciate any help in distributing our posters/brochures. We are also working on a field trip to the Hubers in Connecticut. They have volunteered to give a lecture to us on samplers. We have also contacted Wyndham Needleworks in Easton, Connecticut about a possible overnight stay and needlework buying fringe. The cost would be $20 a person for one night, if we get 10 people to go. You would get a continental breakfast and Lydia has sent me a few tourism booklets of the area. I’m also going to be working on some more stitch-ins at Barnes and Nobel and some outreach programs at Gilda’s House in White Plains. Gaby and I also saw a wonderful project that another chapter was working on, called "English Garden Folly." It is really lovely, and I’ll have the color booklet to show you in January.

If you have any ideas or suggestions, please let me know.

- Susan

NEWS AND NOTES

STITCH STUDIO

Do you have a project that you haven’t finished because you don’t quite know how to do it? In February, we will have a meeting where you can bring in any needlepoint piece that you are working on which you have trouble with. Some of our members are very experienced and will show you what to do. If you don’t have any problems, bring your own work to stitch and help the rest of us out!

STITCHER’S FLEA MARKET

Do you have stash hidden under your bed, in your closet, in the dresser, behind the dresser, in the guest room, or some other secret place? Do you really want to keep all of it, or would you like some of it to find a happy home where it will be well looked after? If you have unwanted threads, charts, kits, canvas, linen, books, yarn, or fabric that you don’t really want any more but haven’t the heart to throw out, bring it to the February meeting. You can sell it! You set the price on your own items. In return, we ask that you donate half of your money that you’ve collected to our chapter. This will help defray the cost of our meeting space.

BRING A CHILD DAY

Do you have a child, grandchild, young relative or friend’s kids that would like to learn how to stitch? At our May meeting, we will be inviting our young friends to join us on the adventure of learning how to stitch. Boys are as welcome as girls, and there will be at least one. Please make sure you fill out the coupon in this newsletter and send it in so we know how many kits we need to make. I hope many of you will take this opportunity to preserve our art form and help teach the next generation. (R.S.V.P. by April 15)

ANNUAL MEETING AND LUNCHEON

We will celebrate the beginning of summer with our annual meeting and luncheon at our June meeting. Please invite your friends to come and join the fun! We will be asking you to bring in your completed projects for display and see if anyone has finished any of their 20th century unfinished projects. We would also like to ask you to bring in a covered dish or beverage. Please fill out the coupon in this newsletter and mail it to Susan. (R.S.V.P. by May 1)

NEW PROJECTS FOR THE FALL

It is hard to believe that we already have to be thinking about our fall 2001 programs. We have chosen 2 projects that we think you’ll enjoy: Gay Ann Roger’s 3rd Mystery Sampler "Glittering Diamonds" and Susan Johnson’s "English Garden Folly." If you’d like to work on these next fall it is important that you sign up for them NOW. Coupons are in this newsletter. (Deadlines: Mystery – March 15, English Garden Folly – Aug.1)

LIGHTHOUSE ORNAMENTS

This year we will be making ornaments for the tree at Seminar. Unlike previous years, this year we will have a theme of Lighthouses. If you are looking for lighthouse designs, you can do a search at: http://www.allstitchedup.com/index.lasso Each chapter should be donating 5 ornaments and we appreciate your time and effort.
