President's MessageDear Members, I hope you have enjoyed working on the "Woven Ribbons and Laces" this fall as much as I have. I think I’m going to add a little metallic, rayon and ribbon to mine, just for fun. We have a new website: http://westchesterneedleartists.homepage.com Come and visit! The new year has some exciting projects to work on like Jane Zimmerman’s "Winter." This beautiful piece with pulled thread and Florentine stitches will be our January project. We will be stitching Gay Ann Roger’s "Mystery with a Bit of Glitz" in February. I wonder what this year’s mystery will look like? As a special treat Jacqui Clarkson will be teaching us about dying threads and fabrics. In April, we will be working on a small stitching design which uses many of ANG’s on-line "Stitch of the Month" stitches to make a stunning piece. This is a chance to dig through your stash for color combinations that appeal to you or start with a fresh palette. If that isn’t enough to keep you busy, our second needlework exhibit will be held in March. I am asking each of you to contribute at least one of your masterpieces. It would be great to see pieces from many different stitchers. Remember to bring your works to the February meeting. We had a good showing at our Barnes and Noble Stitch-In and I’d like to take the opportunity to encourage beginners to join us. Our membership includes stitchers of all levels of expertise from beginners to masters. We are here to help and encourage each other. So, take the plunge and stretch your abilities with us and have fun! I’d like to wish everyone the best holiday season yet and may the new year find you with good health and much happiness, and of course, a needle in your hand! -Marietta

STITCH-INS We are trying to have monthly stitch-ins at members’ houses. No one date seems to fit all needs so we are trying to alternate between stitch-ins during the day vs. in the evening on a monthly basis. We need some volunteers to host stitch-ins. Feb: evening, March: day, April: evening, May: day, June: evening. You pick the date and time. Please call or email Marietta if you can help.
NEWS AND NOTES EXHIBIT March 2000 at the Greenburgh Library Please bring at least one of your best pieces for exhibit at the library to the Feb. 19 meeting. Have the needlework labeled and wrapped in bubble wrap. We are trying to have a section on the 16-band sampler that we did as a group as well as a section for the Gay Ann Roger’s Mystery 1999. Of course you are encouraged to bring other fine works, too! If you are unable to attend the meeting, please contact Sue Sutherland or Marietta Douglas. We are working with the library to arrange programs during March for library patrons. The March meeting will also be open to all interested.
NEW WEBSITE We have our own website: http://westchesterneedleartists.homepage.com . It has a list of our events and board members. Please come visit and let us know what you think! Suggestions are welcome. MILLENNIUM SAMPLER If you are interested in working on this sampler during the year of 2000, and haven’t already signed up, please mail the coupon found in the back of this newsletter or email Sue Sutherland by Dec. 1. Sign up only if you are serious because this is a year long commitment to your fellow stitchers. BARNES AND NOBLE STITCH-IN The October Stitch-in at Barnes and Noble was our best yet. Thanks to all those who participated. We had more than ten ladies stop by and we hope that they will join us at a meeting soon. We will let you know when the next Barnes and Noble Stitch-In is scheduled. NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION We promised the women who attended the Barnes and Noble Stitch-In that we would guide them and that they should have nothing to fear about stitching! Therefore, if you are a brand new member (who recently joined) and are interested in a new member orientation, please send in the coupon found in this newsletter. You will learn about threads, canvas, fabrics, needles, tools, etc. We will also learn some basic stitches and how to lay threads. We will most likely have 2 or 3 session. The date and time will be arranged after Susan receives the names of those interested. Deadline: January 1, 2000. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE The Greenburgh Library has graciously given us 6 more meeting dates for our group at no cost. (Many libraries charge $40-$50 just to meet for a few hours.) Each year we donate a book to the library. This year we’d like to ask each member to donate $2 so that at least one good book can be purchased for the library to show our appreciation. We are very lucky to have friends at this library! NAMETAGS It is time that we all have stitched nametags. We’ve handed some suggested designs out and we are giving you the month of December off from meetings to have time to stitch it. Starting in January 2000 we will be fining those who do not wear a stitched nametag $1. So beware! (If you need a copy of the nametag designs, please call or email Marietta.) WNA’s LIBRARY We have started a library of our own containing books and videos which members may borrow. A special thanks to Gloria Lewscha for becoming our new librarian. Many, many thanks to Susan Sutherland who generously donated videos and books to start us up. Here is a list of what we have so far. Videos

Christmas Ornaments for Seminar 2000 Auction The Eastern Area will once again have its own tree to decorate. Please stitch an ornament by July 1, 2000. Please note that the deadline for 2000 is much earlier than it was for 1999 because Seminar is also earlier. We need at least 5 ornaments stitched. At our May meeting we will be working on a small Christmas stocking ornament that you might like to donate. Of course, any other stitched ornament would be welcomed. The auction helps to defray the cost of our national dues.
On-line Group Correspondence Courses (GCC) and Cyberworkshops Several members who do not have computers or email accounts have expressed interest in joining some of the on-line courses and workshops offered by ANG. National was contacted but at this point they really want only people with email accounts to sign up for the courses. Many libraries offer access to the Internet and will help you obtain an email account. Why not check them out?
