President's
Message
Dear Members,
It’s amazing that summer is already upon us. It seems only like yesterday that the cold
temperatures of January were here…
While there aren’t any meetings in summer, we have
set aside two stitch-in dates at the Greenburgh Library. We will be working on “Barbara’s Patchwork”
which was ANG’s “December Stitch of the
Month 1999”. It is a small piece that
can be quickly stitched during your busy summer. Of course, if you’d like to stitch something else at our
stitch-in you are welcome to do so.
We’ve started a couple of programs up: Sister Stitchers and 20th Century
Unfinished Projects. You’ll find more
information inside this newsletter.
We are still setting up the programs for the
fall. We have been talking about doing
a color workshop, mounting, stitching a NP teddy bear, working on ANG’s
Workshop by Mail project, stitching the NE band sampler and possibly doing
another Gay Ann Roger’s Mystery piece.
We’ll let you know in the next issue of “The Palette.”
Meanwhile, I think we have a few projects that need
finishing up over the summer: “Woven
Ribbons and Laces,” “Winter,” and “Mystery with a Little Bit of Glitz.” We’ll have them all done by the end of
summer, right? J
Hope you have a great summer!

NEWS AND NOTES
HOLIDAY ORNAMENTS ARE
DUE!
If you’ve signed up to stitch an ornament for the Eastern Area Tree at Seminar 2000, it is time to finish them up and bring them in. Susan needs all the ornaments by July 1. That means in her hands not at the post office. Bring them to the June meeting or send them to Susan.
SUMMER STITCH-INS
We will have 2 stitch-ins during the summer at the Greenburgh Library. The first is Tuesday, July 18 from 6:45-8:45 and the second is Tuesday, Aug. 15 from 6:45-8:45. We are planning on stitching “Barbara’s Patchwork” which was the December Stitch of the Month in 1999. It is a small patchwork design (5.25” x 5.25”) worked with floss and perle cotton. You can copy the instructions from the Internet at: http://www.needlepoint.org/StitchOfTheMonth/1999/99-12.htm or purchase a color copy at the next meeting or stitch-in. It will be available for a nominal fee. (See picture on next page.)
Of course, you can bring other things to work on at the stitch-in, like some of those UFO’s..
20th
CENTURY UNFINISHED PROJECTS
Speaking of UFO’s, we have started up a new incentive program designed to motivate you to finish up all your projects started before June 2000. Included in this newsletter is a form on which you may list all your projects (that you’re willing to admit to). Bring this completed form to the meeting and put it in our 3-ring binder. As you complete a project, bring it to the meeting for show and tell, and write down the date completed in the notebook. In June 2001, we will award small prizes for various categories.
SISTER STITCHER
PROGRAM
Another new program we have begun is a sister stitcher program. When new members join, we will assign them to an experienced member. This will serve to make the new member feel more at ease by having an instant friend and the big sister can help the new member find materials needed for projects, maybe help with new stitches that the new member may never have done, and be available to answer any questions. We have a list started and if you’d like to sign up, please do so at the meeting.
BOARD MEETING
The next board meeting will by
on Aug. 22 at 7:00 pm at Ruth Rosenthal’s.
If your name is on the backside of the cover of this newsletter, please
plan on attending (also look there for directions to her house).
NAMETAGS
There are still a few of you that don’t have
stitched nametags. Now you’ve got the
summer to stitch one up. So spend a few
hours doing it while you’re on vacation.
Remember, we are now collecting a $1 fine at each meeting if you do not
wear a stitched nametag.
WNA’s LIBRARY
We
have a very nice video collection in our library as well as a couple of
books. Why not look at what we have at
the next meeting and borrow something?
A $10 deposit fee will be placed on the videos. No deposit on the books. Materials will be due at the next
meeting. After one month, the fine will
be $5 and after 2 months the fine will be $10.
See Gloria Lewscha if you’d like to borrow something.

MEETING TREATS
A number of people have asked for
my recipe for Applesauce Cake. It is
very simple, and if you use a microwave you will only need 1 bowl and about 10
min of your time. Here it is:
APPLESAUCE
CAKE
½ c. butter or margarine
1 ¾ c (1-lb can) sweetened
applesauce
2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 t. baking soda
1 t. cinnamon
½ t. nutmeg
¼ t. ground cloves
1 c. raisins or chopped nuts.
Preheat
oven to 350°F. Grease a 9” square pan or a 11”x14” pan. In a large microwavable bowl, melt margarine
in the microwave 100% for about 1 ½ min or until the margarine is melted. Measure the remaining ingredients into the
bowl and stir until blended. Bake 30-35
min or until center springs back when lightly touched. Cool and cut into desired portions.
If anyone has a favorite recipe
that they’d like to share, please send it to Marietta.
